University of Chicago bio-chem student & rising-Senior Austin Hudson-LaPore went missing while watching a rare storm depart the Chicago area, on the night of June 12th, 2013.
Austin's family was unsure as to the direction their loved one had taken, that night. He left both his smart-phone and his wallet  behind on his kitchen table fearing they would get wet in the storm.
K-9 Specialties Rob Larson and his K9 Captain Dexter offered to track the missing man's footsteps and found they led directly to Promontory Point Park, on Chicago's South Side.
This allowed the Chicago authorities, media and Austin's family to concentrate their search for him, along the shores of Lake Michigan.
8 days after he disappeared,  Austin's body was found floating in the lake by a local fisherman who stayed with him until authorities could retrieve him.
In November, at a special memorial service at the University of Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel, Austin's family honored the 3 individuals & search organizations who helped bring Austin home.
Trainer Rob Larson and Captain Dexter of K9 Specialties were one of them.

I met Austin's family at the memorial service that was held at the University of Chicago. I was with Robert, his son, my son and of course Capt. Dexter and Sgt. Duke. I listened to every word that was spoken by Austin's family and friends. Mr. Lapore spoke last of the family members and had asked Robert, and Capt. Dexter to go up to where he was speaking. Greg spoke of the services that Robert and Capt. Dexter provided to the family of this amazing young man. Greg presented Robert with an amazing and thoughtful gift. I remember the look on Robert's face when he came back to sit down and was really able to look at the gift. He was full of emotion and told me that it was the most wonderful and thoughtful gift he had ever received. What was the gift you may be asking, it was a picture frame containing pictures of Austin, his parents and his sister. There was a section on the frame that had a handwritten note thanking Robert for all he and Capt. Dexter did to find Austin. This was the first memorial service I had gone to with Robert, it was also the first time I met him in person. He needed someone to sit with Daniel during the memorial so I volunteered to bring my son and drive him and the dogs to the service. While this wasn't the ideal circumstances to meet, nor was it even close to the ideal outcome for Austin's family and friends, it was a beautiful memorial service. I think about Austin, a very promising young man with an incredible family that I wish I had the honor of knowing before his passing. Hudson-Lapore family, you are always in my prayers, I think of you often. With everything you were going through when we meet, you left an impression on me. Robert, your services are amazing and for better or worse, you and your amazing dogs are able to bring some form of closure to families and friends of missing people. Keep doing what you are doing! I am posting this to let others know how important your services are too families of missing people in the hopes that others get involved. Even if you can't physically help Robert, please support him financially as all of the services he provides are free of charge to the families. He does this of his own free will as he feels in his heart that this is what he was meant to do. Please continue this cause and help bring more families closure.
